Cleaning and Care

Proper care and maintenance is required to ensure a long life:

• Our Trail Hatchets are hand forged from 1050 high carbon steel, this steel is prone to rust and corrosion. To keep this from happening keep the head and blade dry and oiled. Clean off any sap or residue from the edge before storage.

• The handles are made from hand selected American hickory, that has been charred and waxed for longevity. To improve handle life wax periodically, every 6 months or so. Bees wax, Johnstons paste wax, or boiled linseed oil will work.

• To sharpen use a minimum of 400 grit water stone, than strop on leather with green chromium oxide to shaving sharp. If cared for and treated with respect this tool will last a lifetime.
