Cleaning and Care
Carbon Steel Blades
We use high carbon steels in our hand forged knives and tools to provide the best performance and the keenest edge. However, a trade off does occur: this steel is very susceptible to corrosion. Proper care and maintenance is required to ensure a long lasting blade.
-
Wipe the blade frequently during use in wet environment. After use, you may notice a patina, this is expected
-
After each use, clean and oil the knife.
-
Storage: keep blade oiled in a dry and stable temperature environment
-
Long term storage: ensure the knife is free from moisture, coat the blade with mineral oil or preferred protectant. Check blade periodically and oil as needed.
-
Sharpening: A two sided waterstone with a 800 grit side and 1200 grit side would be sufficient. Finish with leather strop coated in green chromium oxide.
-
Please remember your knife is a cutting implement, it is not designed for screwing or prying.
